Stewart Mountain Falls

Situated in the cool hills of Stewart Mountain, resting on the edge of the Rio Nuevo is home to what the locals call Stewart Mountain Falls. I knew there was a waterfall in the area but for some strange reason every time I sat out to find it I always ended up at Sugar Pot Ruin Beach. Sugar Pot is one of my favorite beaches, it used to be my every Wednesday spot. It wasn't until August 22, 2020 in the middle of the pandemic that I really sat out to find it. The road to this gem is winding and lined with potholes. Upon reaching close to the community I saw two ladies and some kids dressed in swim wear so I asked them how to get to the waterfalls they told me that the community wasn't open to strangers and the river was closed lmao. These ladies got jokes KMT! The road was lonely but I continued driving until I saw a taxi coming from the opposite direction. I asked for direction and the driver told me to turn back and turn right at the yellow bus stop.  When I reached the bus stop I thought to myself how this missed me. The people in this community got jokes. They mounted a sign on the pole with the community name stating that the river was closed.

Not even a sign like this could stop me from entering a community and exploring! The road leading to Stewart Mountain is very lonely, you would think it is a ghost town. There were more signs along the road about the river being closed. When I reached the community I asked a young man where the waterfall was and he told me straight ahead the road will come to an end, park and follow the track going left. River closed my ass I thought to myself.. We parked and explored the area a bit before we headed to the river. While walking to the river we realized that we would have driven all the way down to the river because it was perfect for four wheel drive. The area was green and cool, perfect for a picnic. 


When we got closer to the waterfall the ladies we passed earlier acted surprised when they saw us. If only they knew me, they would know that a stupid sign like that can't scare me. The mainstream media is spreading propaganda so I can't blame people if they act scared these days. I honestly wasn't even paying them any attention because I was in a daze. Stewart was hovering on the edge of Rio Nuevo with his perfect self, I have no idea why I waited this long to explore him. I found a spot for my backpack and I was ready for a photoshoot lol. The ladies steer at us, which made me a bit uncomfortable. Shortly after they left and we had this entire beauty to ourselves. We swam and explored the river, looking to see if there were more waterfalls in the area.  I did not see any signs of another waterfall so I went back to where I left my bag and chilled. Shortly after I saw a group of boys fishing, I enquired about more waterfalls but sadly this was the only one in the area. It was a perfect day, I'm definitely coming back, I thought to myself.




On November 7, 2020 I visited a second time. It was overcast when I was leaving Ocho Rios but I still decided to go. When I got there it started to rain shortly after. The falls were flowing heavier than the first visit. The river was swift so I didn't spend a lot of time swimming. Rain and rivers can be very dangerous, don't try this at home. A young man must have seen me when I drove and parked because he came down by the river to check on me. Even though he didn't say a word to me. It didn't make sense to stay so I went back to Ocho Rios.

On November 2, 2023 my friend and I decided to drive 45 minutes from Medellin to Retiro to see a waterfall which is suited on the Rio Negro river. Getting to the waterfall was pretty easy, thanks to Google Maps. The waterfall is visible from the road and does not require hiking.  I was in a trance when I laid eyes on this magnificent cascade. The water flew down the giant, sun baked  rocks like milk from heaven and ran away fast into a tiny but swift stream.  Surrounded by tall, lush green trees and soft beds of grass, makes it easy for an ideal picnic spot. Hola desde República Dominicana. Come along with me for a part of my day as I go waterfall hunting in another Spanish speaking country and all I know is basic Spanish that can not save my life if I run into problems. I am in Puerto Plata for a good time, not a long time, with a full itinerary. Waterfall hunting can be a wild goose chase and could be twice as hard in a Spanish speaking country. I was already off to a late start because we had to drive three and a half hours  from Santo Domingo the night before. And boy oh boy I thought driving in my home country was wild. When I visited Medellin I thought that country had to be the worst to drive in but I was so wrong. Swift River Falls (Big Spring) Portland (Warisha Spring / Warsaw)

I am clueless as to the actual name of this waterfall or if it even has a name. The young man that gave me the tour said it's called Big Spring but I doubt that's the correct name. I recently found out about it, when one of my adventurer friends asked me if I knew it or have any information on how to find it. According to her the girl who posted it on Instagram refused to give info on it, claiming that she doesn't remember how to get there or have a contact for the person who gave her the tour. Few days later I insisted that we should go chase waterfalls and that was the target. I knew a community that Swift River flows through so on November 21, 2021 just a few days before my birthday we decided to search for it, like it was lost LMAO.
