Double Head Falls, Braehead Falls, Clarendon Jamaica
Less than 48 hours ago I was in Clarendon chasing waterfalls and getting bitten by ants, which by the way left some huge red bumps on my body. Here I am once again heading back to see the cascade I did not get to see when I visited Johnson Crawle. Today is December 24, yes Christmas Eve but I don't celebrate that. Yesterday was my daughter's birthday and sad to say the older she gets the more she finds what I like doing boring SMH kids. I have taken her on a few of my adventures when she was much younger but these days the only place she's willing to go with me is to the beach or a restaurant.
After turning around, I called the guy to let him know that we would be there shortly. This man told me that he was not home and he's out of the community because he was expecting me from early in the morning, now mark me. I didn't tell him what time I’d be there because he told me that he’d be close to home all day. I wasn’t even mad or anything because I am confident that we’ll find someone to show us what we are looking for. Plus like I said I never went looking for a waterfall and never found it. Worst case scenario, we could chill at Braehead Fall, because she hasn't seen it yet, if I don’t find a local guide.
When we arrived in the community it was exactly 2:30pm. The entrance leading to the tiny road where Braehead is located was lively with people drinking and playing games. We continued our journey. The road was lonely but out of the blue I saw a man running like he was running for dear life. To my surprise it was the local guide who I called about five minutes ago, he saw me and shouted that he's going to get his shoes and I should wait on him. We had to pass his house to get to Breahead Falls so we waited at his gate. Once he was in the car we drove past Breahead Falls. I tried to show Denine but she didn’t see it. I guess she doesn't have a good eye, surprisingly not a soul was in sight. In no time we were back at the spot we parked the other day, I asked permission to park, of course.
Once we were parked I grabbed what I needed and headed in the opposite direction of where Johnson Crawle is located. The entrance to Double Head Falls is located in someone's driveway. I packed light for this trip because the local guide said the hike would be rough and it's along the cliffs. I wore pants and proper shoes. I even put my camera in a proper protection bag just in case I slipped and slid. Once we started the hike we passed tangerine and papaya trees, hopefully I will see the owner on the way back to get a few to take home for my daughter because she loves tangerines.
Now back track to a few days ago when I went to Johnson Crawle and the guide wanted extra money to see this falls and told us the hike would be long and rough? Bullshit!!! That's all exaggerations, the hike was a total of three minutes and not all of it was along the cliffs. All I pretty much needed to find this cascade was a little direction. It is that easy to find, this man is a con artist I will not recommend him, the good thing about this trip is that I did not negotiate a price with him. I wanted to see the distance then pay him based on that.
This time around I made sure to check the rock before emptying my book bag lol. No ants insight so it was safe. The atmosphere was cool and the scenery was 50 shades green. Double Head is definitely untouched, no garbage in sight. I loved how clean the area was. I hope it stays this way. An hour after getting content and admiring the beauty we retraced our steps and ended up under the tangerine tree, I saw a lady and she gave us permission to pick some, the guide climbed the tree and picked the ripe ones for us. Surprisingly they weren’t sweet so I didn’t ate any.
We drove back to Breahead Falls to chill for a bit, paid the local but he didn’t seem pleased with the payment I gave him even though I thought I over paid him. I told him next time I’ll give him more money and off he was making his merry way back home cause he lives close by.
Once again we had the entire cascade to ourselves but Denine was scared because we were there alone. We didn’t venture close to the cascade simply because she saw the bumps on my skin and I told her what happened. Yeah those ants would scare anybody off. I wonder if they're the reason why the area has been so lonely lately? People usually shower here, hmmm… We chill close to the road and take photos and chat. Eventually she kept asking if we were safe and even though I tried to reassure her that we were, she still seemed worried. One car eventually drove past and the person asked if we were okay. That was our cue to leave because Denine is a scaredy cat. On our way out of the community we passed the guide where the music was playing, drinking and playing games. I guess that's where he was when I called him earlier.
This might be the last adventure for the year, if it is I definitely closed out the year with a bang. For those who only read the blog and don’t have Instagram my birthday was Thanksgiving Day. As mentioned in a previous blog I haven’t been exploring much so I didn’t do a birthday adventure. Come 2023 I’ll try to be more consistent and try to multitask. Happy holidays may the coming year bring you nothing but happiness.
