Braehead Falls, Falling, Rio Minho Clarendon, Crooked River

September 25, 2020 I ventured out to find Braehead Falls, located in the cool hills of Clarendon. I saw a photo of it on instagram and read through the comments. I reached out to one of the commentators, because he said he was from a neighboring community and he grew up going there as a kid. Look no further I thought, I didn’t even do a proper research. How hard could it be to find it I thought, because Braehead falls was situated pretty much on the side of the road. When we got to the community it was pretty much a dead end and I knew there was no way Braehead was in this community. Well lets just say we ended up round one part (ended up somewhere else).

.

We met up with a local, not sure if he was related to my guide, in the community and he confirmed a waterfall in the area we were in, so I was happy about that. If I can't see what I came for at least I'll see something I didn't know of. Shortly after we started the hike, it was bright and sunny, perfect day to go chasing waterfalls. The community was situated on a plateau, after around 10 minutes or so we were heading down hill. The lush green hillside was breathtaking, not to mention the winding river in the far distance made it picture perfect. The local informed us of a gold mine on the other side of the river in the opposite direction of where we were heading. I asked him if we could go there and he said it was dangerous SMH. Now that would be an adventure I thought to myself.

The further down the hill we went the more beautiful it got, we passed through a guava field and of

course I had to stop and pick some. Nothing like freshly picked fruits, on a hiking trail to see a new babe.

This hike was probably about half an hour, most of it was down hill and a few minutes in the river bed, climbing over enormous boulders. One has to be skilled to get to the waterfall with any device to take photos, because of the huge boulders and the gushing water. But yeah I managed to do it with the help of my guide. The waterfall was cute, sitting pretty on the edge of the Rio Minho. Another beautiful memory added to the many I have of the Rio Minho, I spent a lot of my childhood swimming in this river because it runs through the community I grew up in. It also passes through the community I was born in. Rio Minho is the longest river in Jamaica FYI.

Not long after we made our way back up the steep hill, it took longer to make it back to the top because it was a big hill. while it was fun to go down it surely wasn't fun to come back up lol. Feeling not too accomplished I enquired about the Braehead Falls again but this time I showed the local a photo of it. He said he knew where it was and why I didn't show him before we ventured down the hill, that's where I wanted to go. I don't know why I didn't do that. I guess I assumed my guide showed him. Once we got back to where we parked, no time was wasted. We made our way to Braehead Falls, the roads this side of the island are badly in need of repairs.

Braehead Falls

In no time we arrived and Braehead Falls sure did not disappoint. He was standing tall, yes just like I like them tall, dark and handsome. I was in a daze, it's so amazing how such a small stream could make this tall powerful waterfall. God is truly amazing!

The area seemed like a chill spot for the locals, kids were out and enjoying the stream and while soaking up some of the refreshing water, people came to bathe! I guess it's also a bathroom. I was told that several more waterfalls are in the area. I wanted to attempt to see another one but I told they require hiking and it was already late, so you know who’s coming back.

After taking photos and cooling off under the icy cold waters of Braehead, we wrapped up and headed towards home, with just a few stops on the way to get food and a few drinks.
