Gutter Head, Twin Falls, Blue Hole, Norris Falls, St Thomas

Once again Denine called me up for an unplanned adventure, well let me not say unplanned cause in my head all the adventures are already planned lol. She called me up Saturday January 14, for a weekday adventure, she wanted to go somewhere close but somewhere she's never been before. Well I thought to myself St. Thomas it is then since I haven't done any exploring that side in awhile. St. Thomas is famous for Reggae Falls, it is not a natural cascade, it is a man made dam that used to supply water to the community. Nevertheless, it is beautiful. I remember my first trip there. I got so many messages asking about its location and I can't help but to believe that I somewhat made it popular because after my first trip it got hella popular to the point where locals were there charging a fee upon entry.

The day Denine had in mind was Monday January 16 and to be honest my day was already booked out because I had errands to run and packages to pick up. But you know me, I never say no to an adventure. I like to start my day early when going on an adventure so the plan was to just go to the shipping company and pick up my packages and meet Denine there at 10am but as usually she was hours late SMH.

Listen if you’re venturing to St. Thomas please keep in mind that the road is terrible even with the new highway they're building!

It’s been about 2 years since I've been on this side of the island and the roads are worse than before. This was one of the reasons I wanted to start the day early plus I did not know exactly how to find what we were looking for. I just know the place exists lol how I know I saw photos of it years ago and I did my research. Alright so we’ll drive to where I think the turn off to the community is and just ask questions from there on to find the community, once I am in the community I’ll just ask questions.

It so happened that we drove past where we were supposed to turn off because I was too busy paying attention to the bad roads so we had to turn back. Thank God we only went like 5 minutes after the turn off. Once we were back at the start point I asked directions to the small community I was looking for. The road leading to the community was so much better than the main road connecting Kingston to St. Thomas smh. With the help from google maps and one little boy we found the community in about 10 minutes.

Once we were in the square I asked a local and he said I was in the right place. I should park or just follow the farm road. He offered to show us the way along with an elderly man. I was happy about that. We parked and in a matter of seconds we were off, we walked on the narrow road overlooking the river. The air was fresh and the trees were lush. There is a pump station along the river that supplies the community with water. I am not sure where the road leads to but my friend and I along with the younger local turned off on a little narrow track leading down into the river, while the elderly gentleman took the high road to check the area. Once we were in the river there was a small footbridge made by the locals to cross the river. Once you're across the small bridge, you will be greeted by a small cascade with a beautiful pool surrender by huge boulders. I was lovestruck, while admiring the beauty another man came out of nowhere. He said he saw us and wanted to come say hi and asked what brings us here lol. After chatting for a short while I was ready to continue the hike but the 2 men were convinced that the small cascade is the only waterfall in the area. I showed them a photo of what I was in search of and they both laughed and said I was in the wrong community and what I was looking for was in Portland.

I was going to explore the area some more, I told Denine. Then out of the blue the elderly man appeared from behind one of the boulders and asked why we stopped there, I told him what the other 2 men had said, he laughed and told me that they not familiar with the area so they wouldn’t know. He told me that they moved to NY when they were young and just recently migraine back home to the community. We then proceeded behind the boulder and there stood the beauty that I wanted to see for years, that quickly distracted my thoughts from 'it's always the locals that don't know the gems they have' and to think this was just behind the huge boulder. I was going to see it anyway cause I wouldn’t let them stop me from exploring the area lol you know me I wasn’t gonna just take their words for it.

A few people were there hanging out. I must say I am ashamed of how people treat these gems, they litter the environment. I know it's the people from outside the community because not so long ago the area was getting popular. Plenty of people from Kingston were coming here.

This place could be magical, the water was crystal clear and the waterfalls were so unique. Twin falls is what I’d name it because the huge boulders form 2 waterfalls side by side forming a natural cyan blue pool. Heavenly I thought to myself, I was in awe when I was interrupted by the third gentleman who joined the hike with us. He wanted to know why I came looking for this place. I told him I love waterfalls and I am a blogger, but he didn't seem to believe me. He said there must be some other reason why I came all this way. The sad truth is that I am a waterfall addict, I told him lol, while still admiring this beauty.

All eyes were on me, I am not sure if they were wondering why I have so many little black spots on my skin. Yeah remember those bumps that came up on me after getting bitten by ants at Braehead Falls? The bumps are now ugly black spots on my body! And I hate them, especially the ones on my belly!

Denine wasted no time, before I knew it she was in the water, But I was cautious. Shortly after the guys we went there and saw left. I was happy about that, I could now relax and go into the water. I got some photos and videos of course then when I was about to go into the water the men who accompanied us told me they were leaving, because the men who just left were not from the community. That's code if you ask me. I wasn't afraid or anything, just rather be safe than sorry.

Nevertheless once they were gone I wasted no time to soak up some of the refreshing icy cold water.

Check out my reel on Instagram.

We enjoyed the ambiance for about thirty minutes before we wrapped up and walked back to where we parked. The men from the community were sitting by the shop we parked. We thanked them, then we were on our merry way back home.
